Many Black, Asian and ethnically diverse professionals are not simply exhausted from working hard. They are exhausted from navigating environments where pressure is constant, expectations are higher, recognition is inconsistent and psychological safety does not always feel guaranteed.
Research continues to reinforce this reality.
Deloitteโs Women @ Work report found that women from ethnically diverse backgrounds report significantly higher levels of burnout and non-inclusive behaviours at work.
McKinseyโs Race in the Workplace study also highlighted that Black professionals are more likely to experience microaggressions, feel less supported by managers and face greater pressure to constantly prove competence.
This is the part of the burnout conversation many organisations still struggle to address.
The invisible labour, emotional regulation, over performing, pressure to represent and fear of being misunderstood, overlooked or penalised for speaking honestly all contribute to a level of exhaustion that often goes unseen and unacknowledged in the workplace.
A 2023 Gallup study further showed that employees who do not feel psychologically safe at work are substantially more likely to experience stress, disengagement and emotional exhaustion.
The result is not just fatigue. It is chronic depletion happening quietly behind high performance.
Our latest blog explores why burnout must be viewed through the lens of leadership, equity, workplace culture and organisational design, not just personal resilience.
If you have ever felt tired in ways rest could not fix, this conversation matters.
