EVOLVE: Beyond the Algorithm: AI, Health Equity & the Future for BAME Women
There are moments in history that don’t announce themselves with a roar, but leave a lasting impact all the same. COVID-19 was one such moment. Yet what has unfolded in its wake, digitised healthcare systems, AI-powered diagnostics and automated clinical pathways, may prove even more transformational.
But transformation without inclusion is just another form of inequality.
As the NHS and other healthcare systems worldwide embrace AI at an unprecedented pace, the uncomfortable truth is that Black, Asian and ethnically diverse women are often invisible in the data, underrepresented in leadership and overlooked in the tools meant to serve them. When algorithms are trained without our bodies, our realities and our stories, the risk isn’t just inefficiency, it’s harm.
This isn’t about rejecting progress, it’s about challenging who gets to define it.
