𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐔𝐩.
A week ago, I stood and spoke at the House of Commons for the launch of What Women Want 2025, by the legendary Founder Lynne Franks OBE and representing the National Black Women's Network, on behalf of our very own visionary Founder Sonia Brown, MBE.
I used my voice not just as Emma Lady, The Relentless Boss but as the voice of many Black women who have been present but rarely heard in conversations that impact their bodies, minds, livelihoods and legacies.
Because let's be honest...
For an age, Black women have suffered in silence through menopause.
Not because we had nothing to say,
But because the space was never made for us to say it.
Because our pain wasn't palatable.
Our symptoms weren't studied.
And our voices weren't seen as valid.
When we spoke —- we were dismissed.
When we cried —- we were called strong enough.
When we asked —- we were ignored.
In the workplace; we're navigating brain fog, depression, anxiety, flat mood, burnout, hot flashes and so much more, in boardrooms that barely acknowledge we exist.
In the marketplace; we're sold one-size-fits-all solutions that don't consider the cultural, emotional, or biological nuances of our experiences.
In our communities; we're told to “pray it away”, “suck it up”, or we just suffer in silence, all while trying to hold our families, careers, businesses and identities together.
It's not enough to "include" us after the policies are made, the products are developed, or the funding is allocated.
Black women's voices must be heard at the start —- in research, in strategy, in leadership, and in change.
Because until we're truly seen and heard, the menopause movement will remain incomplete.
And trust me —— we are not waiting to be invited anymore.
We are taking our seats, taking a stand, raising our voices, and shifting the conversation —- for good.
Thank you to National Black Women’s Network for the opportunity to speak at the House of Commons.
