From Kitchen to Wellness: The Secret Life of Spices

ree

We often forget that the spices sitting quietly in our kitchens are more than just flavour boosters, they’re some of the oldest forms of medicine. For generations, people have used spices not only to make meals come alive but also to heal, protect and strengthen the body.

Take paprika, for instance. High in Vitamin C and rich in antioxidants, it does not just add colour to your stews,  it strengthens your immune system. A sprinkle on roasted veggies or eggs can give you that extra boost.

Pepper is another quiet hero. It wakes up your digestion, fights inflammation and even lifts your mood. My tip? Always add a pinch of black pepper when you use turmeric, it helps your body absorb all those golden benefits much better.

Nature’s Detox: Cleansing from the Inside Out

ree

We often think about cleansing as something external, a tidy kitchen, a cleared-out wardrobe, a freshly washed car. But our bodies need the same kind of care. What we eat can either weigh us down or act as nature’s reset button.

Ginger can open up the lungs, while flaxseeds and fibre-rich veggies keep your gut moving the way it should. Even something as basic as a carrot a day gives your skin the boost it needs to release toxins…

The Hidden Sugar in Everyday Foods: What You Need to Know

ree

We often think of sugar as the granulated sweetener we add to coffee or the ingredient in desserts, but sugar is hiding in plain sight in foods we eat every day—foods we don’t typically associate with being sweet. From bread to fruits, sugar sneaks its way into our diets in ways that can impact our health significantly.

Let’s break down these common culprits, how they convert into sugar in your body, and why understanding this matters for your well-being.

Bread Is Sugar

Bread, especially white bread, is made from refined flour. This flour is quickly broken down into glucose (sugar) once it’s digested. The rapid spike in blood sugar levels from eating bread can lead to insulin resistance over time, a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Even whole-grain bread, while healthier, still converts into sugar—just at a slower pace.
