Creating a Home Spa Day

Designing a mini facial at home can be a simple and relaxing way to care for your skin. Not only is it convenient it is very economical if you make it part of your routine.

Here are the steps you can follow to design a mini facial at home. before you start it's important that you have the following tools to hands:-

  • Facial cleanser

  • Scrub

  • Face pack

  • Toner

  • Soft washcloth/Towel

  • Ice cold water

  • Facial steamer

  • Cotton pads

Let's get started.

Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse:

No cheating this is the basic rule for facials. Start by cleansing your skin with a gentle cleanser (appropriate for your skin type) to remove any dirt, oil, and makeup. Gently massage the cleanser onto your skin using circular motions, then rinse with lukewarm water. Try adding essential oils to get the maximum benefits of this routine.

By cleansing your face on a regular basis you will see a noticeable difference and boost the moisture content of your skin.

Get rid of dead skin:

Use a gentle exfoliating scrub to remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter, smoother skin.

Apply the scrub to your face and gently massage using small circular motions for a minute or two, then rinse with lukewarm water. This is an excellent opportunity to get creative and mix your own natural scrubs that give your face a super boost e.g. sugar, honey, oatmeal etc

But don't get super excited with this routine, over-scrubbing can create tiny cracks in the skin barrier which in turn could lead to more loss of hydration.

It's time to steam:

If you don't have a facial steamer, fill a bowl with hot water and place your face over the bowl, covering your head with a towel to create a steam tent. The steam will help to open up your pores and loosen any dirt and oil.

It's cool to wear a mask:

Apply a face mask to your skin to help nourish and hydrate your skin. Choose a mask that is suited to your skin type and concerns, such as a clay mask for oily skin or a hydrating mask for dry skin. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.

It's always a good idea to make your own mask if you have the time - it's more nutritious. Get creative with mixing simple ingredients such as lemon and turmeric, honey and green tea to name a few.

Toner always goes before moisturiser:

Using a face toner will help remove traces of dirt and oils as well as balance the pH levels of your skin and remove any remaining impurities.

To get the best results ensure your toner is suited to your skin type, such as a gentle, alcohol-free toner for sensitive skin or a toner with salicylic acid for acne-prone skin. If you are unsure always check with your dermatologist for expert advice. That's what they are there fore.

Don't forget to moisturise:

Finish off your mini facial by applying a moisturiser to your skin to hydrate and protect it. The list of products are never ending but it is prudent to choose a moisturiser that is suited to your skin type and concerns, such as a lightweight gel moisturiser for oily skin or a rich cream for dry skin.

A mini facial can be a simple and effective way to care for your skin at home. Just remember to choose products that are suited to your skin type and concerns, and to be gentle and avoid over-exfoliating or using harsh products that can damage your skin.
