Why Suffering In Silence Is No Longer an Option —- For Black Women.
Black women have often had to live in survival mode.
→ In our relationships.
→ In the workplace
→ In the marketplace.
→ In spaces, where the systems were not built for us.
Black women are told:
↳ ”Just be strong.”
↳ ”Suck it up.”
↳”Just get on with it.”
↳”Just ‘Soldier’ through.”
↳”You’ll survive.”
These unfair, unacceptable expectations and attitudes have caused black women untold —- TRAUMA.
Trauma that is unresolved eventually shows up in the mind and body, sooner or later.
The most alarming thing is; it may be showing up with a vengeance, in the BRAIN during menopause.
→ The brain fog
→ depression
→ suicidal ideations
→ panic attacks
→ insomnia
→ extreme anxiety
→ Memory issues
Statistics show that black women in menopause are at higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s (dementia) —- a progressive brain disorder that destroys memory and thinking skills, in old age.
Black women are also more likely to have more intense, frequent and prolonged vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats, impacting every day life.
Worst of all—-the experts do not know WHY.
Because there’s a huge inclusivity gap in research on black women and menopause.
So, what do black women do?
→ TALK about your experience with others.
→ Share what you are passing through.
→ Consult a trusted and competent medical practitioner.
→ Consult a menopause specialist.
→ Be your own health advocate.
Black women should no longer have to suffer in silence.
Silence is detrimental.
It’s time to break the silence.
