The Cost To Black Women of Not Being Included?

Black Women are more likely to become obese.

Black women have a higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome:

  • Type 2 Diabetes

  • Hypertension

  • Heart disease

Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to  develop Autoimmune disease’s like:

  • Lupus

  • Sarcoidosis

In menopause, black women are at higher risk of developing:

  • Alzheimer’s (dementia)

  • Mental and psychological and issues

  • Vasomotor symptoms

Black women are more likely to start menopause early with more:

  • Severe, frequent and prolonged symptoms.

Black women are experiencing chronic stress via:

  • Persistent exposure to racial discrimination and stress at work and in society overall

  • Financial hardship

  • Care-giving stress

Black women are more likely to experience barriers to quality medical healthcare:

  • Under diagnosis

  • Mismanagement

  • Lack of culturally competent care

  • Delays in treatment

  • Mistrust in the healthcare system

Yet, black women have often been underrepresented in clinical trials which means:

  •   Less data specific to Black women's outcomes

  •   More generalisations based on studies with predominantly white participants

That’s not just in menopause, that’s across healthcare in general.

These disparities are deep rooted in history.

All of this is sending a message that:

  • black women don’t matter

  • black women are not worthy

  • black women are not deserving

This is a rally call for all black women to stand up and be counted.  Society may have counted you out, BUT GOD counts you in.

Beautiful black woman:

  • Instead of giving your all at your own detriment, say NO, and let the ‘chips fall where they may.’

  • Instead of making your job a priority, put your health FIRST.

  • Instead of taking care of everyone else and putting yourself last, put self-care top of your list.

  • Instead of hardship and struggle, demand SOFTNESS, CARE and REST.

Because, the cost to you is too high.

“Black don’t crack” doesn’t just mean externally, it’s internal too, and it can be your reality. Choose accordingly.
