Why Black Women’s Tears Are Still Falling…
I recently watched a deeply soul-stirring and eye-opening webinar led by Ngozi Cadmus, Jacquie Abram and Ruth Abban.
Three powerhouses; trailblazing the way for black women’s healing from workplace trauma and an economic exit, on their own terms. By their pioneering work in —𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

The topic of the webinar was:
“𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 & 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒖𝒎𝒂: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒑𝒐𝒏.”
Over 5,000 black women tuned in live and had their unseen, unheard and unspoken workplace and societal trauma stories articulated:
↳ the micro-aggressions
↳ the manipulations
↳ the systemic neglect
↳ the structural sabotage
↳ the covert intimidation
↳ the covert racism
↳ the unconscious and
↳ conscious biases
When Ngozi highlighted how the archetype:
“damsel in distress”,
was always portrayed as a white woman but NEVER, as a black woman…
I FELT THAT.
It hit hard.
It hurt.
And, I began to reflect…
I thought about the devastation, the damage and the trauma this dangerous ideology and propaganda had caused to countless black women, not just:
↳ at work
↳ at home
↳ in the marketplace
but even going through midlife…
↳ in our menopause healthcare too.
I have thought about 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬.
How are black women’s tears really perceived?
In real time?
When we truly are in distress?
When perimenopause hit me;
I was 38.
I was depressed.
I was suicidal.
I thought I was having a nervous breakdown.
I almost got sectioned in a psychiatric ward.
I shed tears to my white male doctor.
But my tears were met with:
↳ dis-interest
↳ disdain
↳ disgust even
↳ disregarded
↳ dismissed
↳ unconcern
↳ unheard
↳ unseen
↳ no empathy
↳ not even sympathy
The same inherent treatment of so many black women, discarded by a system that was never built for them.
But unlike before —- OUR STORIES are being told, seen and heard.
When one black woman stands up and speaks up, we empower the next woman to do the same.
Black women may be the most unprotected people in the world; but injustice that is hidden, never gets restitution.
Restitution for what?
𝐀 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧’𝐬 -
↳ Dignity.
↳ Respect.
↳ Humanity.
↳ Femininity and
↳ Birthright.
What else should black women be restituted for? Let’s talk in the comments

This moved me deeply.
So many of us have cried silent tears in rooms that refused to see us. Thank you for naming what so many carry. Our pain is real, but so is our power. Healing begins when we are heard.
To every Black woman reading this:, give yourself permission to pause. Rest is not a reward—it’s a right. Your wellbeing matters. 🌸
