A Leadership Journey for Women of Spirit

ree

Growth is not just about adding new achievements to your life. It is about subtraction, releasing what no longer serves you, so that what remains is powerful, authentic and unstoppable.

In Sista’s in Spirit, we know that every leader must make peace with the old before she can step boldly into the new. That’s the heart of G.R.O.W. – Get Rid of Old Ways.

It begins with getting grounded. Leaders must first know who they are and what they stand for. When your roots run deep in values and purpose, no storm can uproot you.

Then comes the courage to release resistance. Fear, comparison and people-pleasing may have kept you safe once, but they no longer serve the woman you are becoming. Neuroscience shows that when we release limiting beliefs, the brain rewires itself for possibility.

True transformation requires you to own your power. Stop waiting for permission. Claim your brilliance, your mistakes, your lessons and your leadership. Ownership is the birthplace of influence.

But growth is never stagnant. You must walk forward boldly. Leadership is about stepping into rooms where you may be the “first” or the “only” and still choosing to lead with authourity and grace. As Maya Angelou declared “I go forth alone and stand as ten thousand.”

Of course, there will be setbacks. That is why you must give yourself grace. Grace allows you to rise when others would quit, to keep going when the path is hard and to see mistakes as stepping stones instead of stumbling blocks.

Leadership also demands vision. You must reimagine possibility. As Oprah says “You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.” To grow, you must see beyond the limitations of your past and dare to imagine a bigger future.

That future requires you to open new doors. Every conversation, every network, every opportunity is a gateway to something greater. Do not linger in rooms where your spirit no longer grows.

Still, dreams mean nothing without discipline. You must work the process. Growth happens not in one giant leap, but in the daily habits that compound over time. As Oprah reminds us “Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”

Along the way, protect your spirit. Guard your energy. Toxic people and spaces can drain vision faster than failure ever could. Choose wisely where you invest your time and heart.

Finally, embrace the cycle of resilience. Rise, again and again. Every setback is not an ending but a reset. Each time you rise, you strengthen not only yourself but the women watching you, waiting for permission to rise too.

This is what it means to G.R.O.W.

It is not a destination, it is a daily practice of becoming.
