Brothas, It’s Time To Check In!

"The cultural expectation to “be strong” or “man up” leads to delayed help-seeking and underreporting of symptoms, especially around depression, anxiety, or chronic pain."

During Men’s Health Week (9–15 June) this is a powerful reminder to pause, check in and take your well-being seriously, not just your physical health, but your emotional, mental and spiritual health too.

Let’s be real, Black men are least likely to seek help but most at risk.

In the UK, Black men are three times more likely to develop prostate cancer and twice as likely to suffer a stroke. High blood pressure runs disproportionately high in BAME communities, often without early warning signs. And while the numbers are alarming, the silence is worse.

When it comes to mental health, Black men are more likely to experience severe mental illness, yet far less likely to receive early intervention or talking therapies. In fact, many only come into contact with mental health services at crisis point often through police or emergency care rather than supportive environments that promote healing and trust.

Black men are not disengaged they’re navigating a system that hasn’t earned their trust or offered culturally safe spaces for vulnerability and care.

  • Too many face late diagnoses.

  • Cultural stigma tells them to “man up.”

  • Racism in healthcare undermines trust as over 60% of Black men report experiencing discrimination in medical settings.

  • And they’re rarely offered spaces that truly feel safe, private and respectful of their story.

But here’s the truth self-care isn’t soft. It’s strategy. And long-term health starts with small, consistent choices. Black men are not broken just invisible because the system hasn’t been built with them in mind.

Black men need to find a calm, respectful space where their story matters and their healing begins, on their own terms. Whether they’re carrying stress, feeling burnt out or want to prevent bigger health issues, think about:

  • Colonic Hydrotherapy: Cleanse & strengthen your gut (good for all the brothers dealing with IBS, bloat, fatigue)

  • Massage Therapy: Let go of stress stored in the body (tension is not a badge of honour)

  • Acupuncture: Rebalance energy and reduce pain

  • Craniosacral Therapy: Deep nervous system reset for men holding years of unspoken trauma

  • Counselling & Talking Therapy: For the unfiltered, honest conversations men were never taught to have

Finally you don’t have to wait for a crisis to take care of yourself. Prevention is power. Talking is strength. Healing is a journey and you’re not alone.

During Men’s Health Week, we invite you to share one solution or habit that helps you stay grounded, strong, or centred. Your insight could be the lifeline another brother needs.

If this message resonates, like this post, share your thoughts in the comments and pass it on to someone who could use the encouragement. Let’s keep the conversation alive and make men’s health a shared priority, not a silent struggle.
