Has Your Expertise Outgrown Your Brand?
There comes a point in business when your experience, expertise and ambition evolve faster than the brand representing them. Consumed with doing, chasing, building, solving and striving, we rarely stop to consider what our brand is communicating while we are busy doing the work and yet it is already speaking before we enter the room.
It shapes how people perceive our expertise, whether they understand the problems we solve and what they believe our contribution is worth. For a founder, consultant or creative, that has real commercial consequences. Positioning influences trust, referrals, partnerships, client acquisition, pricing power and the opportunities our name becomes associated with.
The brand that helped you establish yourself may not be the one capable of taking you where you want to go next. Your expertise has likely deepened, your audience has likely changed and the problems your clients bring to you now are probably very different from the ones they brought several years ago. Messaging, content and positioning, though, have a habit of staying anchored to an earlier version of the business quietly out of step with the person actually doing the work.
AI adds a new layer to this. When almost anyone can generate competent content quickly, producing more is unlikely to be the differentiator it once was. Clarity, credibility, relevance and distinctive thinking become more valuable, not less and the strategic question shifts from how can I use AI to create more to how can I use it to communicate what makes my expertise worth choosing.
This Friday, award-winning communications leader Effie Kanyua, former BBC and Hearst UK director and founder of LILA Assistant, the first Black female-founded ethical AI platform built specifically for creatives, female founders and consultants joins us for How to Strengthen Your Brand.
Her experience across major media, communications and emerging technology brings a useful perspective to a moment where earning attention is becoming easier, while earning trust and distinction is getting harder. This is not a technical walk-through or another session on prompts and tools, it is a chance to step away from constant delivery and ask whether your brand still reflects your values, speaks to what your audience is experiencing now and communicates the level at which you're actually operating.
If your business has evolved faster than its messaging, if your expertise has outpaced your positioning or if you are simply trying to work out where AI fits into your brand strategy, this conversation was built with you in mind.
The next stage of your growth may not need another platform, campaign or piece of content, it may just need clarity on what you want to be known for, whether your brand currently says that and how AI can help you say it without losing what makes it yours.
If someone in your network is doing exceptional work but their brand has not caught up with the value they bring, pass this along. The right opportunity cannot recognise expertise that has not been clearly communicated.
