Narcissist Red Flags!

Beware of the Narcissist, they have an excessive sense of one's own importance and a lack of empathy for others are traits of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Although narcissists can be endearing and charismatic, which may make them appealing to others, they frequently have a propensity to control and take advantage of those around them.

When dating or in a relationship with a narcissist, the following are some warning signs to watch out for:

Grandiose Behaviour: Narcissists frequently have an exaggerated sense of self-importance and may brag about their achievements, talents, and skills. Additionally, they might minimise or disregard the successes of others.

Lack of Empathy: Narcissists have trouble empathising with and understanding other people's emotions. They might come across as callous or uninterested in their partners' feelings, and they might fail to properly address their needs.

Constant Need for Attention: Narcissists have a strong desire for others' attention and admiration. When they don't receive the attention they believe they deserve, they may become irate, talk excessively, or constantly demand praise. Manipulation and Control:

Narcissists frequently employ manipulation and control strategies to achieve their objectives. They might lie, manipulate people emotionally, or assign blame in order to regain control.

Failure to Accept Responsibility: Narcissists have a propensity to place blame elsewhere and avoid accepting accountability for their actions. They might lay the blame elsewhere or offer justifications for their actions.

Relationships are Transactional: Narcissists frequently view romantic partnerships as a means of obtaining their desired goals, as opposed to establishing a sincere connection with their partner.

Jealousy and Envy: Narcissists are frequently subject to feelings of envy and jealousy and may feel threatened by the achievements and successes of others. To feel better about themselves, they might attempt to minimise or discredit the accomplishments of others.

Unpredictable Mood Swings: Narcissists are prone to mood swings and are often quick to become angry or aggressive towards others. When their wants or needs are not met, they might become hostile or violent.

Gas lighting: This is a psychological manipulation technique used by narcissists to cause their partners to doubt their own perceptions and memories. The partner may experience confusion and apprehension about the state of the relationship as a result of this.

Lack of Intimacy: Narcissists may find it difficult to build genuine relationships with others. It might be challenging for their partner to get close to them because they may be emotionally distant and avoid intimacy.

It's crucial to get help from a professional if you think you might be dating a narcissist.

You can learn about the dynamics of the relationship from a therapist or counsellor, who can also give you coping mechanisms. Additionally, it's critical to establish firm boundaries with a narcissistic partner and safeguard your own emotional wellbeing.

So, in order to safeguard your own wellbeing, it's critical to recognise the warning signs of a narcissistic partner. Setting boundaries and seeking support are crucial if you are in a relationship with a narcissist. Keep in mind that you are not to blame for the actions of others and that you are entitled to a happy and healthy relationship.
